Console input redirection via debug probe

Postby tarkus72 » Tue Nov 15, 2016 2:21 pm

I successfully tested the printf redirection via SWO (using the CMSIS ITM_SendChar function and re-implementing the _write library function), so it's interesting having bi-directional interaction with the target.

Looking to CMSIS documentation (On Core/Debug Access) this can be accomplished with ITM_RxBuffer global variable and related functions ITM_ReceiveChar and ITM_CheckChar; this works of course if the IDE support it, but I didn't find anything about it.

So, the question is: do the IDE support ITM_RxBuffer to redirect console input to the target?

Thank you in advance.

Hi tarkus,

This is not yet supported by the IDE. The SWV console only supports printing messages from target.
