Programmers/debuggers supported by Atollic Studio?

Postby omnix » Tue Nov 10, 2015 11:54 pm

I am looking for a list of programmers/debuggers supported by Atollic Studio, but I can't find it on the Atollic web site.
Does anyone know if there is one and where?

Thanks
O.

Hi omnix,

Good question, since we recently migrated our whole website, some content is still missing. We are working on it!
In the meanwhile, here is a list:
-SEGGER J-Link/J-Trace (all models)
-IAR J-Link
-OpenOCD
-P&E Micro
-ST-Link
-Atollic TrueSTUDIO uses GDB for debugging, therefore more or less any debug probe that includes a GDB-server should be a possiblity.

Does that answer the question?
Kind regards, Mattias

What is the advantage of the segger J-link vs all the others, the best they say..
I see Atollic pushing this one alot, There is a student version of it but with limitations.
Is it worth purchasing the J-link for 700$ ?
Me I am a machinist, and CNC programmer, I used to be have a hobby for audio, wich transformed into hobby for PIC and automation.
My knowledge of the terms is not so good, so not as good as I would like to be, I am never satisfied with my knowledge and always insecure.
I am confident tho, when the forums tell me, whats the best.

Here are some of the advatanges with a J-Link, but it may not be a 100% accurate comparison against "all the other" probes:
-J-Link/Trace are MCU vendor indepependent and have a very broad target support.
-SEGGER are very quick at updating their target support to be able to debug and flash new devices.
-The response time from SEGGER support team is great from my experience.
-J-Link DLL provides a control panel allowing a transparent overview about what J-Link is currently doing.
-Unlimited flash breakpoints available.
-Supports download into CFI NOR flash.
-Free GDB-Server available.
-High download speeds.
-Calculates whether target image has been modified between two debug sessions and can skip download if that image has not been modified. (nice for big applications!)
-Quicker debugging speeds than many free probes (single stepping, etc.)
-Fast and reliable SWV tracing.
-Compatible with Live Expressions Watch in TrueSTUDIO Pro.

Start with a free probe and upgrade later. I don't know anything about the student version of J-Link. Talk to SEGGER to see how it compares to the commercial models.
Perhaps someone else thinks entirelt differently - if so, I hope you get a second opinion here!
I hope this gives you some food for thought.

Kind regards, Mattias
